Six cops feared killed as unknown gunmen attack police checkpoint in Enugu

About six policemen were on Wednesday night allegedly killed by gunmen at a police checkpoint along Obeagu Uno-Amodu – Umueze Amechi road, in the Enugu South Local Government Area of the state. Our correspondent gathered that the hoodlums attacked the checkpoint located at Obeagu Uno shortly after Inyaba Bridge around 7:30 pm. Sources in the community told our correspondent that the hoodlums who came from Agbani axis of the road had first encounter with policemen at 4 Corner and in Amagunze in Nkanu East Council headquarters before coming to attack the checkpoint at Enugu South. The UK Minister of State for the Commonwealth, Lord Tariq Ahmad, demanded that the Nigerian government should explain to the British government how it repatriated the IPOB leader. This followed a debate by the UK Parliament on July 7, during which British lawmakers discussed the UK government’s assessment of Kenya’s role in Kanu’s arrest. Enugu: Professor Simon Ndubuisi Assassinated

The Director of the Sciences Equipment Development Institute, Professor Simon Ndubuisi, has been shot dead.  He was shot dead on Wednesday evening by unknown gunmen. He was killed along Enugu-Port Harcourt highway near the entrance of the Centenary Estate around Amech Awkunanaw in Enugu.  It was learnt that the gunmen also killed his police escort and abducted his daughter, who was in the car.  Professor Ndubuisi hailed fom Mgbowo in the Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Youths flee as soldiers invade Enugu community for sacking herdsmen.

There is tension in Enugu State as men of the Nigerian Army reportedly invaded two communities in the Nkanu East and Nkanu West local government areas of the state. Newsnow gathered that the affected communities are Ekpoffo and Akpugo. Although the reason for the invasion could not be immediately ascertained, villagers who spoke from their hidings told our correspondent on Thursday it might not be unconnected with the recent sacking of herdsmen who were terrorising the area. Some also believed that the invasion could be the directive of the Presidency to security agencies to hunt down Biafran agitators in the South-East region. Community sources told our correspondent that the soldiers invaded Ekpoffo on Wednesday and whisked away some youths to unknown destinations. A source said, “Soldiers numbering over 100 stormed Ekpoffo community in Nkanu East around 7.30pm on Wednesday. They moved from place to place, ransacking houses.
